Content
Relay Rhythms is an interactive tabletop sound sculpture made from salvaged industrial relays and custom circuitry. The relays click in polyrhythmic relationships based on their control knobs, and send corresponding signals to a computer. These signals act as excitation pulses for a set of synthetic waveguides which are controlled by hotkeys on the computer keyboard. In this configuration, the sculpture and computer work together to create an instrument. The sculpture contributes energy to initiate resonance in the waveguides, and the parameters of the waveguides are played in real time.
More information about the Relay Rhythms sculpture is available href( '../../artwork/relay rhythms', 'here' ); ?> .
This piece was performed during the 2013 California Electronic Music Exchange Concerts at UCSB, Mills College, and California Institute of the Arts, and UCSB, and was also performed at the winter 2013 Graduate Computer Music Concert at UCSD.
